The project “CloudLabs” was launched in 2025 with the mission to expand the reach of STEM education to socioeconomically challenged children by educating them about different meteorological phenomena. The primary goal of the project is to produce sound young minds, whose knowledge of weather, climatic conditions, and atmospheric conditions would help their communities to practice carefully planned agriculture, prepare for any untimely floods, and become aware of the different conditions which entail respective climates. Towards this end, the project is working on an original educational resource as a companion activity book that would introduce some hands-on experiments to its readers from the domain of observational meteorology. The book will provide detailed explanations about the uses of sundials, wind vanes, and hygrometers, while describing the scientific principles associated with such instruments used in meteorological studies. To further supplement the impact of the activity book, the project will also organise interactive workshops where children will have the opportunity to conduct experiments as provided in the activity books and experience firsthand how observation is conducted to collect data for analysis.
To ensure the longevity of the eventual impact, the project will soon launch a fundraising campaign to procure funds that would be used to print the activity books, provide the students with basic tools for their experiments, and develop a weather learning lab. Eventually, the project will work with its NGO partner to establish a permanent Weather Room as a learning space for students to continuously engage in exciting experiments. The lab would provide them with the necessary tools, technology for visual presentation of data, and charts to interpret the acquired data, for them to become proficient at reading different climatic and weather occurrences.
